Meaning of Judaic Symbols:
Chamsa - In popular use for over
fifteen hundred years, the Chamsa, from the Semitic root meaning five,
is a representation of the protective hand of God. Many Chamsas have
a single eye embedded in the center of the palm to depict Gods
watchful presence. Jews were among the first to use the amulet for
protection, and today it is commonly worn as a good luck charm.
Chai - The Hebrew word Chai (Alive),
with the two Hebrew letters Chet and Yod attached to each other.
Mezuzah - It is a constant reminder
of G-d's presence and G-d's mitzvot.
Magen David - The shield of David,
or as it is more commonly known, the Star of David is the symbol most
commonly associated with Judaism today. |
